To my snapchat friends itβs not news that I had been going to the gym last semester however itβs probably news that I have done so for about 10 months. I know it sounds like a long time but for me it has been the shortest most challenging yet interesting time. The hour 5 pm would signal an alarm on my phone daily triggering a sensation of a good time to relax my mind off the long days of school I had on campus. Whether I was in an ongoing discussion I made sure that I would shorten it to literally run to the gym. Literally!
Okay Iβm definitely making the gym sound more interesting than it is ππ but well it was that for me towards the last days of my university life. However what I think I should talk about is how hard the first days of my gym experience were. Oh My! I could never really explain that well to bring out how hard they were. Iβm naturally a skinny guy with extremely fast metabolism, a Lamborghini-style metabolism as stated on a blog post I read on bobybuilding.com, hence for me my hard first days at the gym werenβt all about the pain or maybe the lack of energy. They were mostly about gaining the confidence to step into the gym and learn everything from scratch with all eyes on me from the gym-goers who frankly looked like they were wondering what a verryyyy small boy was doing in a place like the gym. I donβt know if youβve ever been in a situation where you want to do something so much but you feel like youβre in the wrong place.
I think one of the things that helped me is that Iβm normally the kind of person who minds my own business when Iβm in a new environment. I wonβt try to form conversations with people I donβt know or havenβt been introduced to. Though Iβm definitely not socially awkward or at least thatβs what Iβve come to find out. So I guess now you understand the situation I was in. A weird one! I had to learn all these new things from new people who recall had this look of βWhatβs this one doing in the gymβ. And that wasnβt the worst bit, one my first day I literally couldnβt do 10 pushups π π π and also lifting the empty barbell was hard AF in that my gym trainer was laughing so hard in shock. I wasnβt really pissed at the whole situation though, it was kind of funny for me too.
The night of my first 5pm tour to the gym, I couldnβt shower easily π¬π¬π π I couldnβt even switch off the bedroom light. It was that bad. Honestly I cant really recall most of the details about how bloody it was but I know it was one of the hardest times of my life. About two to three weeks of consistency passed by and before I knew it gym was no longer giving me that terrible pain that can make you quit. Like I always told my gym crew whenever we saw newbies , the first two weeks always determine who gets to stay and who wonβt come back. P.S we didnβt take any bets on who stayed or left. Lest πππ
Anyway long story cut short, time passed by and the gym goers I found there probably noticed by consistency or whatever they did π π and we become amazing friends and a support system for each other. It was so surreal! So much that they are one of the main things I am going to miss about my university life. The gym became a different place for me, from a place that I originally went to get a BANGING BODY to a place I went to release stress of my final year college work, boost my health, DANCE to a lot of music (we danced so much at our gym, eh!!!) and practically laugh for 2 hours of my day for five days a week. I have gained so much that I feel itβs so unreal. If I start telling you about my entire gym experience, I may take the entire day so like I sometimes do on my blog posts, I will give you the lessons Iβve learnt.
Lessons learnt from my 10 month experience at the gym are: If you want something, go for it. Be Confident, I wish I could stress this more. Always ask if you donβt know something afterall everyone in the gym has gone through the same. But even in life, donβt be afraid to ask. Consistency is key to achieve goals. Always set goals and aim to SHUT THEM DOWN and make even bigger goals after. Lastly and most importantly, PATIENCE is a virtue you should adopt. P.S. I am currently looking for a new gym in my home area to continue my journey to a HEALTHY & AESTHETIC LIFESTYLE. I am also going to create a health & fitness tab on this blog for all posts related to it. Keep Upππ
